The People’s Committee of Quang Tri province has recently issued an implementation plan for the project: “Conversion fishing activities detrimental to marine resources and the ecological environment” for the 2026–2030 period, with a vision toward 2045.
According to the plan, the project aims to gradually transition fishing practices that significantly impacts aquatic resources, the environment and marine ecosystems toward more sustainable methods; at the same time, a number of fishing vessels will be repurposed for other economic sectors to rebalance fishing capacity in line alignment available marine stocks.
During the 2026-2030 period, the province strives to complete the conversion of 771 fishing vessels. Quang Tri also targets ensuring that 100% of fishermen secure stable employment and income following the transition, thereby contributing to the prevention of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
By 2045, Quang Tri province aims to finalize the conversion of all fishing vessels engaged in activities detrimental to aquatic resources and the marine ecological environment, contributing to the protection of fisheries resources, improved management efficiency of the fishing fleet and the stabilization of livelihoods of local fishing communities.
