The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Kien Giang reported that the province's total seafood production from capture and aquaculture reached over 304,240 tons, fulfilling 36.64% of the annual plan and increasing by 9.81% year-on-year. Of this, capture fisheries accounted for approximately 169,759 tons, achieving 40.42% of the yearly target.

Accordingly, the province is in the process of restructuring its fishing industry toward a more rational and sustainable direction, focusing on offshore fishing and environmentally friendly catching methods, while also working to restore and regenerate marine fishery resources.

Illegal fishing activities in local waters have been gradually brought under control, with fishing vessel owners increasingly complying with regulations on combating Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing. Several species have shown notable catch volumes, including pomfret, tuna, anchovy, shrimp, squid, and crab…

The functional sector also monitors 100% of unloaded aquatic output and ensure full traceability at the two designated fishing ports — Tac Cau (Chau Thanh District) and An Thoi (Phu Quoc City) — as well as at other ports under local management and operation, in accordance with regulations.
