(fis.com) Fukushima Prefecture-based octopus and shellfish are finally going on sale at supermarkets in Fukushima this week for the first time since the outbreak of the nuclear disaster in March 2011. The products first passed radioactive tests conducted by the city of Soma’s fishing association and the results and fishing locations were displayed at two supermarkets in Soma operated by York Benimaru, where the seafood was sold.

(vasep.com.vn) Since 18th May 2012, Japan started to test 30 percent of shrimp consignments from Vietnam for detecting Ethoxyquin. The new rule will negatively affect export operation of Vietnam Clean Seafood Corporation (Vina Cleanfood) to this market. In 2011, Japan accounted for 55 percent of the company’s earnings from exports, the result dropped to 30 percent this year.

(vasep.com.vn) In the first four months of 2012, Vietnam tuna was shipped to 70 countries and territories in the world with export value of over US$175 million, rising 18.3 percent on that of the same period of 2011 and occupying nearly 10 percent out of total seafood export value of the whole country.

(atuna.com) American retailers are trying to meet the growing consumer demand for sustainable seafood products. And their preferred eco-label? The blue and white fish, a checkmark of approval from the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC). With tuna being the country’s second most consumed seafood, there is clearly a huge future demand for MSC certified tuna., once certified canned skipjack becomes available.
