Crab exports to Canada saw a positive advance

(vasep.com.vn) According to Vietnam Customs, in the first 5 months of 2013, Vietnam’s exports of crab and swimming crab reached US$27.7 million, down 21.6 percent on that reported in the same time of 2012. The figure in May 2013 was US$5.1 million, down 41.3 percent on that of May 2012.

Vinh Hoan Corp exports most pangasius in January-April period

In April, Vietnam exported pangasius products for USD 146.3 million, up 1.8 per cent over the same period of 2012. Meanwhile, in January–April 2013, pangasius exports brought in USD 534.8 million, down 6 per cent year-on-year.

Shrimp exports to the U.S. edged up 18.2 percent

(vasep.com.vn) Along with Japan and EU, the U.S. is one of three main importers of Vietnam shrimp. In 2012, Vietnam shrimp shipments to this market sharply decreased of 18.6 percent from the previous year due to low demand, instability of domestic raw shrimp supplies and disease outbreaks.

Salmon production drop expected in 2014

The Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca) estimates that next year, salmon and trout total production will be about 530,000 tonnes, which represents a decrease of 24 per cent compared to that expected for 2013, reaching 700,000 tonnes.

Vinh Long harvested 56,000 MT pangasius

(pangasius-vietnam.com) So far, Vinh Long - a Mekong Delta-based province - totaled 2,950 hectares of water surface for fish aquaculture, fulfilling more than 92 percent of its yearly plan. The province farmed pangasius on an area of 433 hectares and produced 56,000 MT of fish, according to Vinh Long Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Seafood exports likely to reach US$6.5 bil.

Truong Dinh Hoe, general secretary of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), forecast that this year’s seafood exports will likely amount to US$6.5 billion, up about US$300 million from 2012, despite a number of key products facing export difficulties.
