However, too many standards are causing confusions for not only fish producers and exporters but also consumers in the international markets. Different certificates lead to hiking production costs and fish prices for fish farmers and producers.

France reduced imports of pangasius and cod in 2013

(pangasius-vietnam.com) In 2013, France imported US$1.506 billion of frozen fish fillets (HS0304), up 6.4 percent compared to US$1.4 billion reported in 2012. Sweden was the largest supplier to France with total value of US$181.5 million, 28 folds above that of US$6.4 million in 2012. It was followed by the Netherlands with US$152.4 million, 3 folds above that of US$51.1 million in 2012.

Strong rise in U.S. pangasius imports in Jan 2014

(pangasius-vietnam.com) In January 2014, the U.S. imported 12,639 MT of pangasius and catfish, worth US$39.5 million, up 39.1 percent in volume and 39.7 percent in value compared to that of January 2013, according to statistics by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). Pangasius products from Vietnam made up of 87 percent in total imports.
