Vietnam’s tuna export turnover rose 21 percent year-on-year to hit 271 million USD in the first half of the year, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP)

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first five months of 2017, Vietnam’s tuna exports reached US$216 million, up 20% over the same period in 2016. Of that, shipments of processed/canned tuna increased by 35%, those of frozen tuna went up 11% year on year. Vietnam’s tuna exports continued to recover thanks to rises in exports to traditional importing markets such as the U.S and the EU. Currently, tuna products of Vietnam have exported to 79 markets in the world, up from the same period last year.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In early 2017, tuna prices soared which significantly affected on demand for tuna in Japan. In addition, the demand for tuna in Japan was on the downward trend due to the trend of increasing the meat consumption of young people.

Vietnam’s tuna export turnover reached 216 million USD in the first five months of 2017, a year-on-year rise of 20 percent.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to the Decision 1683 / QĐ-TCHQ, Hai Vuong Co., Ltd (Hai Vuong Group) was just recognized as the enterprise which was given priority in customs in 36 months. Up to now, there are 60 enterprises which were given priority in the field of customs.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first quarter of 2017, Vietnam’s tuna exports totaled US$121 million, up 23% over the same period in 2016. Exports continued to show the recovery thanks to a rise in shipments to major importing markets such as the U.S and the EU.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnam's tuna exports has recovered in February 2017, after a decline in the first month of the year. The exports of key products also improved better than the same period last year. The rise is attributable that exports to major markets such as the U.S., EU and Japan has recovered.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the early 2017, Vietnam's tuna exports to Tunisia grew impressively, export value as of Feb 15th 2017 reached US$999 thousand, up 1.047% over the same period 2016. With this growth, Tunisia rose to become the 8th largest importer of Vietnam tuna.

Vietnam’s tuna exports to Japan have dropped for four consecutive years since 2013 partly due to high import tariff at 6.4 percent – 7.2 percent.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) After the recovery in the second half of 2016, Vietnam tuna exports to the markets has decreased in the first month of 2017. According to statistics of General Department of Vietnam Customs, tuna export value in the first month of this year reached almost US$34 million, down 8% compared with the same period in 2016. In particular, fresh/frozen/live tuna (HS code 03) accounted for 51.9% in total export value.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In 2016, Vietnam’s exports of tuna reached nearly US$510 million, up 12% compared to 2015. The rise in tuna sales was thanks to higher demand for tuna from main markets.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Tuna exports are expected to increase by 8 percent this year to US$524 million, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Producers and Exporters (VASEP).

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In 2016, thanks to brighter economy and higher private consumption in Israel, the country raised importing tuna from the the world, including Vietnam. In 2016, Israel is an important market of Vietnam tuna exporters. Vietnam tuna sales to the market reached US$26 million, up 50% compared to the same period of 2015. This is the 4th largest importer of Vietnam tuna.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) ASEAN currently held as the 4th largest tuna importer in the world, and the market ranked the 3rd out of top largest tuna buyer from Vietnam. According to statistics of the International Trade Centre (ITC), as of Oct 2016, tuna imports into ASEAN countries reached US$1.3 billion, up 25% compared to the same period of 2015.

Vietnam exported around 200 million USD worth of tuna products to the US in 2016, representing a year-on-year increase of 5 percent.
