Ca Mau: Shrimp Production Reaches Nearly 600,000 Tons, Exceeding 2025 Target

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Ca Mau has exceeded its 2025 production targets, reaching nearly 595,000 tons of shrimp. This milestone reinforces the province’s position as Vietnam’s leading shrimp producer and a bright spot in the country’s seafood sector.

Ca Mau, widely recognized as the "shrimp capital" of Vietnam, continued its strong performance in 2025, with the shrimp industry maintaining steady growth and exceeding planned targets. According to a report from the Provincial People’s Council, total seafood output for 2025 reached 1.26 million tons, achieving 100.4% of the annual plan. Shrimp production alone reached 594,851 tons - a 5.2% increase over 2024, remaining as the key export item to the local economy.

In a year where the province recorded an 8% GRDP growth and met 17 out of 22 socio-economic targets, , the shrimp sector continued to be the backbone of the Agriculture - Forestry - Fishery sector, which accounts for nearly 35% of Ca Mau’s economic structure.

The year 2025 also saw a notable expansion in shrimp farming activities, with increased adoption of industrial-scale, super-intensive, and high-tech aquaculture models. Farming areas certified under international standards such as ASC, BAP, and Organic continued to expand, enhancing the global reputation and value of Ca Mau shrimp in export markets. The province's total aquaculture output reached 904,338 tons, representing a robust 7.4% increase from the previous year.

With strong natural advantages and ongoing economic restructuring, Ca Mau is steadily solidifying its role as the epicenter of Vietnam’s shrimp industry. The results achieved in 2025 underscore shrimp’s role as a critical growth lever, driving sustainable growth and sharpening the province's competitive edge in the international markets.
