(seafood.vasep.com.vn) On the afternoon of March 19, Vice Chairman of the Ca Mau Provincial People’s Committee, Le Van Su, chaired a meeting to address bottlenecks and propose solutions to expand the super-intensive whiteleg shrimp farming model using low water exchange and high biosecurity standards (RAS-IMTA).

According to the plan, Phase 1 surveyed 756 hectares, of which 261 hectares were registered for participation. Following expansion, the province now has 336 households across 29 communes and wards involved, covering more than 940 hectares, with nine units exceeding their assigned targets. The project has completed 1,000 hectares in collaboration with De Heus Co., Ltd., and is set to implement an additional 500 hectares in 2026 in partnership with Minh Phu Seafood Group. Meanwhile, 40 hectares managed by the April 30 Aquaculture Service Cooperative have been supported to obtain ASC certification, coupled with off-take agreements.
The model benefits from strong enterprise participation and the application of circular technologies that reduce wastewater discharge, with a vision to integrate IoT, AI, and big data. However, scaling up remains challenging, as only about 10% of farmers fully understand the model, while technical human resources are limited and access to credit remains difficult.
Provincial leaders emphasized the need to strengthen communication, improve policy mechanisms, enhance environmental control, and ensure synchronized implementation to promote sustainable shrimp development and elevate the sector’s position in international markets.
