From 6th to 8th August 2014, the SWITCH-Asia Project "Establish a sustainable pangasius supply chain in Vietnam" (SUPA) has participated to the "Vietnam Fisheries International Exhibition (Vietfish 2014)", with its booth broadcasting information regarding activities and outcomes of the project to enterprises in the pangasius supply chain.

(vasep.com.vn) Saigon Aquatic Products Trading Company (APT Co) has signed a contract to sell marine fish products with its own brand name in South Korea. It is also producing more value-added products like seafood rolling spring, shrimp dumpling, dried yellow stripe trevally and red tilapia to export to the EU, Japan, and South Korea. These are key items to bring the company high profits in sales.

The decision of the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) to replace Bangladesh with Indonesia as the sole benchmark country to calculate the anti-dumping tax for Vietnam’s pangasius fish is unfair and biased, said Luong Thanh Nghi, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 21.

The 77 cent average duty applied to non-exempt Vietnamese pangasius exporters in the final US Dept. of Commerce ruling was the result of successful lobbying by the Catfish farmers of America.

The food show was held from 5th – 9th March 2013 in Makuhari Messe - International Convention Complex in Chiba (Japan). This year, there were 2,533 companies in the food and service sectors from 66 countries and territories exhibited in the show with over 3,300 booths.

However, many fish exporters say that this market has still showed quiet demand and it may be hard for them to strongly increase exports in the coming time. According to Vietnam Customs, pangasius shipment to Germany had worth of US$20.03 million in January – May 2013, down 14.1 percent against the same time of 2012, showing the sharpest drop among the three leading markets in the EU.
