(seafood.vasep.com.vn) During peak heat periods, farmers raising pangasius, tilapia, and other freshwater fish in Dong Thap are implementing various technical measures to reduce risks and maintain stable production.

According to farmers, rising water temperatures reduce dissolved oxygen levels, while fish require more oxygen under such conditions, making them more susceptible to stress and diseases such as hemorrhage, exophthalmia (popeye), and abdominal swelling. To cope, farmers are increasing pond water levels, enhancing aeration, and regularly monitoring water quality.
In addition, feeding rations are reduced by 30–70% during days when temperatures exceed 35°C. Farmers also supplement feed with vitamin C, minerals, and probiotics to boost fish immunity. Pond hygiene is carefully maintained, with the removal of leftover feed and bottom sludge to limit the buildup of toxic gases.
Authorities recommend maintaining appropriate stocking densities, providing partial shading over ponds, and closely monitoring weather conditions to respond promptly, ensuring effective farming under adverse conditions.
