The central provinces will focus on rearing the brackishwater fish such as black tiger shrimp, crabs, finfish and mollusk.

In 2010, Da Nang (a central province) developed 120 hectares of black tiger shrimp and whiteleg shrimp farming area with the production of 700 MT per year, 850 hectares of freshwater fish with the production of 1,500 MT per year. The province plans to farm sustainably and diversified fish species but this target is difficult to reach because of the current pace of urbanization, Mr. Le Cong Ho, Deputy Director of Da Nang Department of Agriculture said.

Thua Thien Hue province expands organic aquaculture while Quang Nam province gives priority to shrimp farming. The province develops shrimp farming towards environmental protection, disease reduction and quality improvement. According to the plan, the province will finish building 10 farming areas with the total area of 300 hectares in the late 2011.

By 2015, the province strives to reach 50 percent of farming area under national standards on food safety and hygiene. The province also encourages farmers to raise pangasius and diversified fish under the industrial farming model.

The central region of Vietnam makes effort to overcome hardships to reach a lot of achievements in aquaculture. The region is striving to keep sustainable development of aquaculture in the future.
