An increase in the per kilo price of Chilean fishmeal exports has boosted exported revenues through September even as shipped volumes have come down compared with year levels.
Data from Infotrade concluded that fishmeal exports through September have fallen 24 percent from 237,308 tons to 179,179 tons.
But the reduction in shipments has not impacted revenues, which in fact, have risen considerably due to increases in the per kilo price of fishmeal exports.
Infotrade concluded the average per kilo price paid for Chilean fishmeal was up 35.5 percent, from US$1.35 per kilo to $1.83 per kilo compared with year ago prices.
The elevated average per kilo price has bumped up fishmeal returns 2.3 percent from US$319 million year-to-date in September 2012 to $327 million this year.
Asia continues to be the dominant market for Chilean fishmeal, importing 120,914 tons of fishmeal through September. The EU was a distant second accounting for 28,980 tons of imports.
