(seafood.com) Russian fishermen have caught 1.3 million tonnes of fish since the start of the year, 2.1% more than in the same period of 2011, the Russian Fisheries Agency Rosrybolovstvo said.
Fishermen caught 951,900 tonnes (23,600 tonnes more) in the Far Eastern basin. The main fish caught here was the Alaska Pollack at 802,500 tonnes, an increase of 2,300 tonnes.
The catch in the Northern basin reached 210,800 tonnes, 6,400 tonnes less than in the same period of 2011. Fishermen caught 98,400 tonnes of cod, 13,300 tonnes more. The total catch in the Baltic Sea was 12,300 tonnes, 600 tonnes more.
The catch in the Azov-Black Sea basin was down by 100 tonnes to 8,400 tonnes. Russian fishermen caught 400 tonnes of sprats in the Caspian Sea, 100 tonnes less than last year.
Russian fishermen have started to work more in foreign country zones this year and have already caught 83,600 tonnes, 8,100 tonnes more than a year ago. In the Convention areas and Open Ocean, Russian fishermen caught 21,900 tonnes of fish, 4,800 tonnes more.
