(Interfax.com) Russia's veterinary and phytosanitary oversight body Rosselkhoznadzor is considering introducing restrictions on chilled salmon and seafood supplies from Norway, Rosselkhoznadzor chief Sergei Dankvert told Interfax.
Such a decision could be made based on the results of inspections of Norwegian enterprises and negotiations with the Norwegian veterinary service.
Russia has proposed that Norway independently limit chilled salmon supplies from several Norwegian enterprises. In addition, the Norwegian veterinary service was supposed to submit information to Rosselkhoznadzor on a mechanism for ensuring product safety. However, the Russian side's proposals were left unfulfilled, Dankvert said.
Rosselkhoznadzor is of the opinion that the mechanism for chilled fish should differ from the rules for frozen product imports. Possible restrictions will not touch imports of frozen fish, Dankvert said.
