Processed and canned aquatic resource production will grow 50 per cent in 2014, according to forecasts by the Consultant Maximixe.
According to the estimates of this entity, next year a volume of 76,600 tonnes will be reached, driven by an increase of 20 per cent in fish landings, mainly anchovy, horse mackerel and mackerel.
In addition, Maximixe predicts a more dynamic squid and other seafood capture process, reports the agency Andina.
The consultant feels confident that the Peruvian government grants further fishing quotas and continue to promote the direct human consumption (CHD) of fish.
But, on the other hand, it plans a 10.5 per cent drop in exports of processed and canned aquatic resources for next year, with a total value estimated at approximately USD 222.1 million.
For this year, the production of processed and canned aquatic resources would reach 51,100 tonnes. This volume represents a decrease of 20 per cent year on year attributed to the lack of the two pelagic resources: anchovy and horse mackerel.
Maximixe also expects exports of such products will fall by 8 per cent during 2013 compared to 2012 due to low international prices caused by increasing supply of canned fish products, especially anchovies.
Peruvian fisheries resources used to produce processed and canned products include tuna, bonito, horse mackerel and anchovy, among others, in presentations as fillets, chopped or prepared with tomato.
Also products with clams, prawn, squid and other seafood are processed
