Metro Cash & Carry Vietnam to set up Metro Requirements for fishery industries

(vasep.com.vn) Metro Cash & Carry Vietnam engaged to create the first supply chain of fresh, live aquatic products in Vietnam by setting up standards of Metro Requirements on good agriculture practices for fishery industry.
According to Le Thi Minh Trang, Chief of Metro’s Quality Ensure Office at the Conference titled “Prospects on Vietnam agriculture market in 2012” on 6th March 2012, Metro is carrying out a project on establish a supply chain of high quality seafood for the domestic market. Its aim is to provide local consumers with live aquatic products that are farmed and processed in compliance with international standards on food safety.
This will be the first supply chain of fresh, live aquatic products in Vietnam. The retailer plans to cooperate with local administrative agencies to select fish farmers for the project. It also cooperates with other partners like Vietnam Challenge Funds (VCF), Fresh Studio Consultant Company, World Economic Forum (WEF) and Cargill to realize the project.Metro’s supply chain will be formed as following model: Farmers - Traders(dealers) - Platform in Can Tho province - Metro - end consumers.
Metro’s platform in Can Tho started to purchase raw fish since early November 2011. In long term, Metro expects to build fish purchasing agents and platforms across Mekong Delta provinces in the early 2012.
