In 2010, although the weather was more complicated, aquaculture gradually became one of key goods production industry, towards the construction of centralized production areas. Aquaculture production reached about 2.8 million MT and catches was estimated at 2.39 million MT.
To achieve the goal of aquaculture 1.1 million ha with an output of 3 million MT in 2011, the fisheries sector will promote the development of fisheries investment programs from various fund sources, develop the feed and broodstock sources suitable to farming conditions and environment. Besides, the sector also focuses resources on the essential plans to develop itself, especially infrastructure investment plans and policies to promote production.
European Commission (EC) has submitted guide prices in 2011 for fresh and frozen seafood products as well as the EU producers price of raw tuna for processing. Accordingly, the EC proposed to reduce between 1 - 3 percent for most whitefish species, except for redfish, saithe and sole increases between 1.5 - 3%; For pelagic species and frozen seafood, prices rise between 1 – 2 percent for mackerel, Spanish mackerel and whole albacore but decrease between 0.1 – 2 percent for herring, sardines, anchovy and gutted albacore. For frozen fisheries products, EC increases between 1 – 2 percent for hake, swordfish and Illex squid, and reduces 1 – 3 percent for sea bream, squids and prawns.
