Ha Tinh: Clam prices nearly double, farmers reap substantial profits

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) After the Lunar New Year of Binh Ngo 2026, commercial clam prices in Ha Tinh province surged sharply, nearly doubling compared to normal levels and standing about 20–30% higher than the same period last year. The spike has encouraged many aquaculture households to accelerate harvesting and sell large volumes to the market.

At major clam farming hubs such as Cua Sot, Mai Phu, and Thach Khe, farmers are mobilizing labor and machinery to quickly harvest clams that have reached market size. Some cooperatives have harvested hundreds of tons, with selling prices ranging from VND 22–25 million per ton, generating significant revenue for producers. Several households reported earning more than VND 2 billion during this harvest period.

The rise in clam prices is attributed to limited domestic supply after the Lunar New Year, particularly in large northern farming areas affected by natural disasters, while market demand remains high. As a result, many traders are purchasing clams and transporting them to central and southern provinces for consumption, heating up the market at the start of the year.

Currently, Ha Tinh province has nearly 500 hectares of riverbank tidal flats dedicated to clam farming, with annual output of around 3,500–3,700 tons and providing employment for many local workers. Farmers are now racing to complete the harvest in order to prepare for stocking the next production cycle.
