Crab exports from Vietnam rose in Jan-Feb 2016

Crab exports in Feb 2016 reached over US$5.2 million, down nearly 23% from the same period of 2015. However, the total export value in Jan-Feb 2016 was still up 16.5% over Jan-Feb last year, and hit more than US$18.3 million.

Some markets like the U.S., Australia, Singapore and Taiwan showed positive rise in Jan 2016, however, in Feb 2016 crab exports to these markets decreased.

The U.S.

In Jan 2016, crab expots to the U.S. registered a year-on-year increase of more than 88%, while the figure in Feb 2016 posted a slump of nearly 60% and touched US$1.3 million. However, total crab exports to the market in the first 2 months of 2016 achieved US$8.5 million, up 20.7% over Jan-Feb 2015.

The EU

Crab exports of Vietnam to the EU fell in Feb 2016, with the value US$931,000, down nearly 47% compared to Feb 2015. The figure in Jan-Feb 2016 was US$3 million, down more than 24% over the same period last year.

After an impressive growth in Jan 2016, crab exports to the Netherlands, fell in Feb 2016. The figure in Feb 2016 was only US$27,000, down more than 86% over Feb 2015. Due to the decline, the Netherlands slipped to the 3^rd rank in the EU bloc importing crabs from Vietnam.

Meanwhile, after a decline in Jan 2016, crab exports to France in Feb 2016 rose. The figure in Feb 2016 estimated US$ 658,000, up 9% over Feb 2015. As of Feb 2016, thanks to the growth, France became the largest importer of Vietnam crab.

Japan

Vietnam crab exports to Japan maintained the positive growth in Feb 2016. The figure in Feb 2016 was over US$1.2 million, an increase of nearly 46 % compared to Feb 2015. Thus, the total crab exports in the first 2 months of 2016  reached more than US$2.8 million, up 28% over Jan-Feb 2015.

Vietnam crab exports to the main markets in Feb 2016 saw ebbs and flows, caused by Tet holidays. Crab sales in Mar 2016 are expected to rise.
