(seafood.com) According to the data released by the Fisheries Bureau of the Ministry of Agriculture on June 26, China's fishery production maintained stable growth in the first five months of the year.
With the aquatic products market trading briskly, and with rising prices, China's fisheries have maintained a trend of healthy development.
The national output of aquatic products rose 4.9% year-on-year to 18.934 million tons during this period.
Aquaculture output increased 6.61 percent year-on-year to 13.54 million tons with the out-of-pond prices for sea aquaculture products and fresh water aquaculture products up 213.26 percent and 84.75 percent, respectively.
National marine fishing output increased 0.86 percent year-on-year to 5.39 million tons, a relatively stable level. The prices of aquatic products have made sustained rises.
According to the statistics of transaction prices at 80 wholesale aquatic products markets, the national average wholesale aquatic products price rose 9.23 percent year-on-year to 19.44 yuan per kilogram in the first five months, with the average price of marine products growing 9.84 percent year-on-year to 35.86 yuan per kilogram, and the average price of freshwater products rose 8.46 percent to 13.25 yuan per kilogram.
According to customs statistics, exports of aquatic products in the first four months dropped 4.54 percent year-on-year to 1.18 million tons despite a 12.12 percent increase in export value to $5.624 billion. The export volume of shrimp, shellfish, eel, and tilapia large yellow croakers dropped.
Exports to Japan, the United States and ASEAN maintained growth, while exports to the EU and South Korea fell slightly.
