Chile to mandate HACCP standards of Chinese seafood exports at AQSIQ's request by 2013

(seafood.com) Chile's National Fishery Service Sernapesca is asking Chilean seafood companies to prepare their operations to follow HACCP guidelines at China's request.

According to Sernapesca, the changes agreed upon by it and China's General Adminstration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) will meet HACCP requirements for food manufacturing companies around the globe.

The changes will be made gradually, so as not to hinder trade between both countries and will consist basically of: implementing the new format certificate for products for human consumption from November 1, 2012. For facilities that currently do not have HACCP standards, they will be required to implement it by March 1, 2013. By then, the Quality Assurance Program must be approved for certification audit.
