(vasep.com.vn) The latest report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development shows that seafood export value in November was estimated at US$ 666 million, with cumulative export value on 11 months reaching US$ 7.22 billion, up 19.3% year on year.
The US maintained its position as the leading import market for Vietnam seafood, accounting for 21.85% of total export value. Seafood exports to this market in the first 10 months reached US$ 1.43 billion, up 19.97% year on year.
The first 10 months of the year witnessed the rise in seafood exports to most markets such as Japan, Korea and China with increases of 8.47%, 37.49% and 16.17%, respectively.
According to Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), shrimp sustained its position as the key export item, contributing to positive growth of seafood exports from Vietnam.
In terms of seafood imports, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, estimated import value in November alone was uS$ 74 million, bringing the cumulative import value in 11 months to US$ 957 million, up 59.7% year on year. Vietnam imported mostly from India (34.2%) and Taiwan (7.1%). China is the 6th largest seafood market for Vietnam, accounting for 3.6% of total import turnover. Total seafood import value in the first 10 months of 2014 has increased considerably by 68.9% compared with the same period in 2013.
