GENERAL INFORMATION

In Vietnam, the fishery sector plays an important role in the national economy, accounting for about 4-5 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and about 9-10% of national export revenue.

More than 4 millions of people working in the fishery and the growth in production have attributed to the fish exports. Thanks to strongly increase in many years, Vietnam ranks among the top ten seafood suppliers and its seafood products are exported to 170 markets in the world.

Shrimp, pangasius, tuna, squid and octopus are main seafood products exported by the country. In which, shrimp exports create about US$ 3.5 – 4 billion, make up 46-50% of the total seafood sales of Vietnam. Earnings from pangasius reached at US$ 1.7 – 1.8 billion (25% of the total) and exports from Tuna and Cephalopods are US$ 450 – 550 million for each.

Exports to the U.S, Japan, EU, China and South Korea make up 75% of Vietnam’s seafood sales to the wolrd.

Quang Ngai: Seafood revenue up 8.5% in 2015

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the period of 2013-2015, seafood export turnover of Quang Ngai province, Vietnam reported year-on-year growth.

In 2015, the revenue reached nearly US$58,3 million, up 8.5% over 2014. In Jan-Feb, 2016, seafood exports of the province hit US$3.3 million, up more than 17% compared to the same period of 2015.

In 2015, seafood exports by the province remained the stability despite reduction in total seafood revenue by Vietnam. Quang Ngai’s seafood exports in 2015 grew partly thanks to high quality of seafood products.

Domestic and foreign consumers are increasingly favoured seafood products thanks to its healthy value. Therefore, seafood revenue, particularly ocean tuna revenue by Quang Ngai in 2015 witnessed the tremendous rise.

In 2015, catching yields by the locality hit nearly 168,000 MT, an increase of 8% over 2014. Captue output of 2016 is expected to rise by 10%, in which marine products meeting standards for exports make up approximately 40%.

Offshore fishing vessels by the province are newly built and upgraded. It is predicted that exports of marine products by the locality in 2016 will increase.

Local authorities will support enterprises in expanding markets and adapting to international trade intergration.
