Established in 1990 in the United States, the Dolphin Safe/Dolphin Friendly eco-label was set up to ensure tuna was caught by methods which do not harm or kill dolphins in the process. And in the past 23 years it seems the label, which belongs to the Earth Island Institute, has more or less served its purpose with the majority of the world’s canneries subscribing to the cause.

The Russian government is considering tightening control over the export and import prices for fish and seafood. Customs duties will be reduced from 1 September, as part of Russia's obligations to WTO accession. However, the government at the same time hopes to tighten price controls by establishing a center that will monitor global prices; and adjust customs duties based on the "real" value, rather than the nominal import value.

Eva Tallaksen of Undercurrent News reports that scientists are working around the clock in Copenhagen to possibly produce an abundance estimate of the Northeast Atlantic (NEA) mackerel stock, as an initial survey has pinned levels at a historical high, and more than 60% above last year’s estimates.
