(seafood.vasep.com.vn) The US stays as the 2nd largest tuna importer in the world, behind Japan, and accounting for 11-13% of the world's tuna imports. This country is also the largest buyer of Vietnam’s tuna. However, in the last 2 years, tuna imports into the US were unstable.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to General Department of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam’s cephalopod exports in Jan-Nov this year totaled US$391.03 million, down 0.5% from the same period last year. The figure in Nov 2016 was US$49.05 million, up 27% year on year. Notably, in November, Vietnam’s cephalopod exports to 9 main importing markets reported the positive growth. Of that, shipments to Taiwan showed the highest increase (+91.2%) with the value of US$766 thousand, followed by China and Hong Kong (+70%) with US$2.1 million. Exports to top 3 largest importing markets, including South Korea, Japan and EU all rose by over 16% year on year.

Vietnam’s export turnover of aquatic products reached US$7 billion in 2016, an increase of 6.6% over 2015, reported the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Of that, exports to top 3 largest importers in the region including Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines rose by 0.1 - 3.5% compared to the same period in 2015. In Nov 2016, exports to Singapore climbed up nearly 43% over the same period last year.

China’s Ministry of Finance (MOF) will adjust tariffs on a number of exports and imports.

In Jan-Aug 2016, Italy’s tuna imports totaled US$563 million, up 5.3% compared to the same period in 2015. In late 2016, thanks to higher demand for holidays, tuna imports into the country expected to continue the rise.

The Mekong Delta of Vietnam had 4,786 commercial pangasius farming ponds, of which 2,267 are privately owned (47.38 per cent), 2,486 owned by businesses (51.95 per cent) while only 32 belong to local co-operatives.

Vietnam exported 35 billion USD worth of goods to the US in January-November, 2016, representing a remarkable rise of 14 percent over the same period last year.
