(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnam's shrimp exports in the first quarter of 2021 reached US$ 661 million, an increase of over 5%. This slight growth was mainly due to an increase in exports of 16.5% in March. Shrimp exports to the US, EU, Australia, UK, and Russia surged in March (up 49%, 27%, 37%, 31% respectively and 97%), making the picture of shrimp export in the first quarter brighter after the cumulative results in the first 2 months decreased compared to the same period last year.

In which, CPTPP market sector is still leading, accounting for 34.26% of total shrimp export. Lack of containers and high sea freight to European and US markets and congestion at Chinese import ports due to strict corona virus control regulations have affected Vietnam's shrimp exports in the first 2 months of the year. However, since March, the situation has been more positive, so it is forecasted that shrimp exports in the second quarter of 2021 will flourish again.

Positive signs have been seen in shrimp exports since the beginning of this year and alongside a host of favourable conditions regarding market demand, the target of earning 4 billion USD from exports has been deemed “within reach”.

Although the seafood trade has not escaped the impact of the pandemic, the shrimp industry is forecasted to continue to grow thanks to the FTA push, especially with the experience of adapting to market changes from 2020.

The Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Cà Mau plans to maintain its shrimp farming area at 280,000ha between 2021 and 2025, with an increased output.

The Minh Phu Hau Giang Seafood JSC (in Hau River Industrial Park in Hau Giang Province’s Chau Thanh District) in early January exported its first batch of shrimp in eight containers to the EU, the US, and Japan at prices 4-5 percent higher than in the Asian market.

The Minh Phu Seafood Joint Stock Company announced on February 17 that US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has cancelled a decision issued on October 13, 2020 on the imposition of anti-dumping tariffs on the company’s frozen shrimp products exported to the US.
