As many as 22 Vietnamese enterprises are showcasing their products at Foodex Japan 2024, one of the largest international food and beverage exhibitions in Asia, which kicked off in Tokyo, Japan on March 5.

The Japanese consume around 10,000 metric tons of pufferfish each year, according to Business Insider, but Japan's quality of wild puffers has decreased over the years, so Vietnam can explore the potential of a future market for the fish.

Up to now, Japan is still Vietnam's largest black tiger shrimp export market. However, in the context of increasingly complicated Covid developments, the country continues to increase the amount of imports of vannamei shrimp because the price is more suitable.

(vasep.com.vn) By the end of February 2021, the total value of Vietnam's tuna exports to Japan reached more than US $4 million, down by 16% from the same period in 2020. It is forecasted that in the following months, tuna exports to this market still cannot recover.

After a decline in the first three quarters of the year, the export of cephalopod to this market recovered in the fourth quarter 2020, reaching nearly $33 million, up by 1.4% over the same period in 2019. Total cephalopod exports of Vietnam to Japan in 2020 reached 121 million USD, down 14% compared to 2019.
