Vietnam’s swimming crab exports in 2025 recover slowly but open new opportunities in the EU and CPTPP markets

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, Vietnam's crab exports have grown continuously since the beginning of 2024. In May 2024 alone, the export value increased by 62% compared to the same period in 2023, reaching 22 million USD. Cumulatively, in the first five months of the year, export turnover reached more than 97 million USD, an increase of 76%.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, Vietnam's crab export value in March 2024 reached more than 18 million USD, an increase of 66% over the same period last year. Cumulatively, in the first 3 months of the year, export turnover reached more than 52 million USD, up 75% over the same period.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnam's crab exports continued to decline in March 2023. Export value this month reached 11 million USD, down 37% over the same period. The total value of crab exports in the first 3 months of the year was nearly 30 million USD, 42% lower than the same period in 2022. This decline is due to inflation still causing the demand for crabs to decrease in most of the main markets.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first 9 months of this year, Vietnam's other seafood exports, including marine fish, surimi, crabs, and bivalve molluscs, reached US$ 1.63 billion, up 1% over the same period in 2019. Exports of crabs rose the most by 26%, exports of marine fish increased by 21%, that of bivalve molluscs hiked slightly by 4%, but surimi exports decreased by 6%.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnam crab exports in July gained more than US$10.3 million, down 19.6% from the same period last year. The figure in Jan-Jul 2016 estimated at US$59.7 million, down 1.7% year on year.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In QII/2016, Vietnam crab exports posted a slight drop. However, total exports in the first half of 2016 valued nearly US$49.8 million, up 3.1% over the same period last year.

(vasep.com.vn) According to Japanese Customs, in the first seven months of 2013 imports reported over 7.5 thousand MT of fresh crab and king crab, worth JPY 4.45 billion. These figures were down 1% in volume and 10% in value on those of Jan-Jul 2012. Of that volume 6.7 thousand MT (90 percent) came from Russia, worth JPY 3.67 billion.

Kien Giang, A project that will give blue swimming crabs cultivated in Vietnam an international accreditation is proceeding apace and well positioned to meet its objectives.
