India finished out 2013 as the top shrimp supplier to the United States, carrying on the lead it gained on the US’s typical top supplier – Thailand – in August of last year.

The National Aquaculture Association of Honduras (Andah) estimates that this year the country will export shrimp for about USD 220 million, exceeding last year’s results, which were described as ‘historic’.

Demand is quiet for an adequate supply. Discounting is becoming more prevalent in order to stimulate buying interest, especially on white shrimp.

Therefore, ASEAN shrimp producers and processors are working to build a common set of standards for their shrimps, which is suitable with ASEAN nations' conditions and harmonized with other popular international requirements, Vice Chairman of VASEP Nguyen Huu Dung said.

According to General Department of Viet Nam Customs, the country's goods exports to Australia in January 2014 reached US$294.47 million, up 4.1 percent from the previous month and 24.1 percent from the same period of 2013.
