Farmers in coastal Tra Vinh have planted more than 4,000ha of mangrove forests to breed shrimp and other aquatic species, according to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Vietnam’s shrimp exports in March 2018 reached US$302.4 million, up 25.8% from March 2017; the figure in the first quarter 2018 amounted to US$742.9 million, up 20.2% over for the same period of 2017.

Shrimp exports to this market in the first three months of this year reached US$134.9 million, up 13.5% over the same period last year. Exports to the three main markets (the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium) recorded the double digit growth. Exports to the Netherlands and Germany increased by 76.3% and 55.3%, respectively, while exports to Belgium grew by 18.9%.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) After the good growth in 2017, Vietnam’s shrimp exports in 2018 continued to go up. In January 2018, Vietnam exported shrimp to 49 markets with the export turnover of US$264.8 million, up 33.2% over the same period in 2017.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Australia is the 16th largest shrimp importer in the world, accounting for 1.5% of total global shrimp imports in 2017.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) The Netherlands is Vietnam's largest shrimp importer in the EU, accounting for 26% of Vietnam shrimp exports to the EU and accounting for 5.8% of Vietnam’s total shrimp exports to markets in 2017. Vietnam’s shrimp exports to the Netherlands witnessed the continuous growth in 2017 compared with the previous year.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) From 2013 until now, whiteleg shrimp always accounted for over 50% in the total export turnover of shrimp and increasingly express its key position. This item expected to continue to be a key export item in the coming time, contributing significantly to the total export turnover of shrimp in particular and seafood in general. Vietnam’s whiteleg shrimp exports are projected to continue the increase in 2018.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has asked People’s Committees of cities and provinces with large areas of shrimp farms to employ different solutions in order to reach targets set in the national action plan for the development of the shrimp industry through 2025.

Demand for imported shrimp in Belgium remains quite stable, on average about 50 thousand MT per year. Belgium imports not only shrimp for domestic consumption but also for processing and re-exporting to the EU countries.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) The U.S. Department of Commerce released today the preliminary results of the 12th administrative review of the antidumping order on frozen warmwater shrimp from Vietnam. The calculated rate for the sole mandatory exporter, Sao Ta Seafoods Joint Stock Company (FIMEX VN), was announced as 25.39%. FIMEX VN, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), and all of its members are very concerned about this result and believe that it was issued in error.
