(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the second week of March 2016, the price of commercial whiteleg shrimp in Tien Giang, Vietnam was on the upward trend, fetching high income for local farmers.

After three years of implementation of the Mangroves and Markets Project (MAM), shrimp farmers have become more aware of organic production techniques and the need to preserve mangrove forests in their areas.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In first 2 months of 2016, Vietnam shrimp production and prices showed signs of recovery. The weak supply in February and rising purchase demand for processing and exports pushed raw shrimp prices sharply increase compared with the previous month.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) On 23rd February 2016, Kien Giang Province people's Committee in collaboration with the General Directorate of fisheries (Ministry of agriculture and rural development) organized a workshop on Developing sustainable industrial shrimp farming. The province’s the goal is to produce 57,000 tonnes of shrimp in 2016, in which industrial and semi-industrial farmed shrimp is about 20000 tons.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In 2016 Ca Mau province plans to push the total output of fisheries and aquaculrure up 530,000 tons, an increase of 6% compared to the year 2015. The provinve will raise 15% shrimp farming areas this year and boost improved extensive shrimp farming.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Vietnam shrimp exports to Japan - the second largest shrimp market of Vietnam – recorded US$584 million in 2015, rising 21.4% compared with 2014. The yen devaluation, tougher economy reduces Vietnam shrimp exports to the market.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In an effort to grow the availability of four-star Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) shrimp, the Global Aquaculture Alliance has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with National Fish & Seafood and Minh Phu Seafood in which approximately 800 shrimp farms in Vietnam will be encouraged to attain BAP certification.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In 2015, total seafood imports by Vietnam reached US$6.57 billion, down 16.1% from 2014. Vietnam enterprises must import raw material for processing and exporting due to instability in domestic supply of raw material. However, seafood imports in to Vietnam in 2015 were lower than those of 2014 because enterprises must face difficulties caused by decline in import price, weaker importing demand and stronger competition.

(vasep.com.vn) On 7th September 2015, US Department of Commerce (DOC) issued the final results of the ninth anti-dumping duty administrative reviews on frozen shrimp imported from Vietnam. The period of review (POR) is from 1st February 2013 to 31st January 2014. DOC imposes average anti-dumping duty of 0.91%, compared to 0.93% in the preliminary results announced in March 2015. This is much lower than final result of POR8, which was 6.37%.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, Vietnam shrimp exports through November 2015 hit US$2.7 billion, down 25.6% year on year. Estimated figure for the whole year of 2015 was US$3 billion, down 25% year on year. Nevertheless, shrimp still dominated the total exports with 44% of total value for exported seafood.

(vasep.com.vn) In November 2015, shrimp farming area in Bac Lieu was 1,073 hectares, including 633 hectares of black tiger shrimp and 440 hectares of whiteleg shrimp.

(vasep.com.vn) Statistics from International Trade Center (ITC) showed that Vietnam remained the leading shrimp supplier to Japan. It was followed by Thailand, Indonesia and India, respectively. Shrimp imports into Japan from Vietnam in Jan-Oct 2015, however, reported the year-on-year slump in both volume and value.

(vasep.com.vn) Weak demand in main markets, coupled with low export price and fierce competition squeezed Vietnam shrimp exports in the first 10 months of this year. According to statistics of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam shrimp sales in Jan-Oct 2015 reached US$2.5 billion, down 26.7% year on year.
