The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP) has projected shrimp exports to continue gathering momentum this year, particularly in the EU and China.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) After a reduction in the first quarter, Vietnam’s shrimp exports in QII and QIII/2017 showed the possitive growth. Of that, exports in QII increased by 52% over QI, exports in QIII increased by 25% over QII and 90% over QI. Vietnam’s shrimp exports in the first nine months of the year reached US$2.7 billion; up 21.4% over the same period in 2016.

During the 10-year period (2007-2016), Vietnam was consistently the largest shrimp supplier for Switzerland, accounting for over 50 percent of total Swiss shrimp imports.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) China ranked the 8th leading importer of cephalopod in the world; accounting for 5% of total import value of cephalopod in 2016.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) South Korea is the 12th largest shrimp importer in the world. Shrimp imports into South Korea have been steadily growing over the years, accounting for the share of 1.9% in 2007 to 2.4% in 2016 of total global shrimp imports.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) As of July 2017, Vietnam’s shrimp exports amounted to US$1.9 billion, up 18.5% over the same period last year. Shipments to top 8 leading markets witnessed the good growth, except for the U.S (-5.5%).

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Continuing the downward trend in QIV/2016, Vietnam’s shrimp exports to the U.S in the first two quarters of 2017 decreased by 7.5% to reach US$276.4 million. The figure as of 15th July 2017 was US$306.5 million; down 5.3% over the same period in 2016. Due to the reduction in its imports, the U.S slipped to the 4th rank and Japan replaced to rank the 1st in top Vietnam shrimp importers.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) After the growth in 2016, Vietnam’s shrimp exports to the Philippines as of July 15th 2017 continued to witness the rise of 41% with the value of US$6.5 million. The Philippines is a single importing market in ASEAN, accounting for 0.4% of Vietnam's shrimp exports to markets.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first half of 2017, Vietnam’s shrimp exports to China grew by 30% year on year. Therefore, China continues to be the potential importing market of Vietnam in the coming time.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) After the slump in QI/2017, Vietnam’s shrimp exports in QII/2017 inched up 28.2% to eye US$938.9 million. Thanks to the good growth in Apr-Jun 2017, Vietnam’s shrimp exports in the first half of 2017 gained US$1.6 billion, up 15.2% over the same period in 2016.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) Taiwan stayed as the 9th largest importer of Vietnam shrimp, accounting for 1.5% of total Vietnam’s shrimp exports. Taiwan has remained its 9th rank since 2016 (through May 2017). In 2014 and 2015, the market ranked the 7th out of top leading Vietnam’s shrimp buyers.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) The UK stays as the largest importer of Vietnam shrimp in the EU, accounting for 4.8% of Vietnam’s total shrimp exports. Import demand for shrimp into the UK from Vietnam remained good as of May this year.

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) As of July 2017, Vietnam’s shrimp exports amounted to US$1.9 billion, up 18.5% over the same period last year. Shipments to top 8 leading markets witnessed the good growth, except for the U.S (-5.5%).

Vietnam has so far this year exported 243.2 million USD worth of shrimp to the Republic of Korea (RoK), a surge of 29.8 percent year on year.
