Bến Tre: Increase in Shrimp Area and Production

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In May 2025, both the area and production of shrimp in Bến Tre increased compared to the same period last year. This was due to favorable weather conditions and suitable salinity levels for shrimp farming. High-tech and super-intensive shrimp farming models continued to yield positive results.

According to the Ben Tre Statistics Sub-department, the area for farming whiteleg shrimp in May 2025 was 1,580 hectares, up 4.64% from the same period last year. The total shrimp harvest production for the month was estimated at 15,530 tons, a 4.63% increase compared to the same period last year. Cumulatively, in the first five months of 2025, Bến Tre’s white-leg shrimp output is estimated at 66,540 tons, up 12.58% from last year. Growth in area and output was due to favorable weather and appropriate salinity, encouraging farmers to stock shrimp. Intensive and high-tech shrimp farming models continued yielding positive outcomes.

In May 2025, Bến Tre’s intensive pangasius farming area was 65 hectares, down 7.14 hectares from last year. The cumulative area reached 146 hectares, a 4.58% decrease year-on-year. Monthly harvested output was 8,320 tons, down 2.8%, with a cumulative 36,714 tons for the first five months, a 6.05% decline.
