(vasep.com.vn) In the context of many difficulties in pangasius farming, the diversification of other farmed aquatic species is needed to keep business. Tilapia is considered as a potential fish for export.

(vasep.com.vn) According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, in the first quarter of 2012, pangasius exported to the EU priced averagely at US$2.68 per kilogram while raw fish was around VND24,000 per kilogram. At these levels, only processing companies with their own fish farms could make some profit.

The decline is due to lower supply of domestic raw material. Prices for exported products will be up slightly. In the coming year, the pangasius may see stable trend in exports to traditional markets, where it has still be choice of many consumers thanks to reasonable price.
