(vasep.com.vn) The application of biotechnology in seed production is increasingly viewed as a strategic imperative to upgrade pangasius fingerling quality, optimize farming efficiency and anchor sustainable industry development.

Research and applications are targeting critical nodes across pangasius seed production, spanning selective breeding and propagation to rigorous quality assurance. The adoption of technological advances can improve the growth performance, health and uniformity of fingerlings while reducing risks during the nursery stage.
Seed quality plays an important role in determining productivity, survival rates and the economic efficiency of pangasius farming areas. As the sector pivots from volume-driven expansion toward value creation, establishing self-sufficiency in high-quality seed supply is recognized as a foundational pillar.
Biotechnology further enables tighter control over genetic profiles, disease resistance, and environmental adaptability. This could enable the industry to gradually establish a stable seed supply, reduce dependence on inconsistent seed quality and better meet requirements for productivity, biosecurity and product quality.
Beyond hatchery production, synergizing biotechnology with environmental management, nutrition and disease prevention is expected to improve efficiency across the pangasius farming value chain.
This direction is also aligned with the development of modern aquaculture, in which science and technology, seed genetics and resource-use efficiency are playing an increasingly important role in enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnam’s pangasius industry.
