Vietnam seafood eyes Pakistan market

(vasep.com.vn) Pangasius are increasingly becoming popular with Pakistan people. Vietnam pangasius products are favored by local people thanks to their tasty flavor, convenience, good quality and reasonable price.

Aquaculture and fish processing sector are underdeveloped by Pakistan. The country mainly consumes and exports wild-caught fish. This may lead to dwindling of fish resources. As a result, Pakistan depends much on imported fish to meet its local demand.

Through April 2014, Vietnam seafood exports to Pakistan reached more than US$5 million, up 17 percent year on year. It is expected that Pakistan will purchase more seafood from Vietnam in coming time to satisfy its seasonally high demand for seafood in the winter (from September to January).

Besides, Vietnam pangasius exporters to Pakistan enjoy many advantages. They only need health certificates to sell their fish products to the market without subjecting to any technical barriers such as antidumping duty. Thus, Vietnam exporters can strengthen exporting their pangasius products to the market.

Through May 2014, Pakistan exported US$54 million of seafood products, in which exports to Vietnam hit US$10 million and US$13 million is sold to Thailand.
