(vasep.com.vn) According to Directorate of Fisheries, through September 2013, total fish production reached 4.5 million MT, up 2.7 percent over 2012. In which, marine fish landing totaled 2.1 million MT (+3.3 percent) and aquaculture production reached 2.4 million MT (+2.1 percent).
In terms of value, fish output was worth by VND131,350 billion, up 3.4 percent from that of the same period of 2012 including VND80,068 billion of aquaculture output and VND51,282 billion of catch landing.
So far this year, pangasius farming area has been 4,432 hectares, down 9.1 percent over the same time of 2012. Fish farmers in the country has harvested 825,838 MT (-4 percent) on the farming area of 2,971 hectares (-12.3 percent) with average productivity of 278 MT per hectare on par with 269 MT per hectare in 2012.
The shrimp farming area reported at 22 provinces in the country touched 628,724 hectares (-1.7 percent from the same time of 2012), including black tiger shrimp area of 581,441 hectares and whiteleg shrimp area of 47,283 hectares. Local farmers harvested 258,782 MT of shrimp (+16.4 percent). The figure consisted of 152,313 MT of black tiger shrimp and 106,479 MT of whiteleg shrimp.
