(vasep.com.vn) “Mekong Delta towards the Green Economy” was the theme of the forum held by the Southwestern Region Steering Committee (SRSC) and Can Tho and Vinh Long provincial People's Committee on Nov 3rd 2013.
The forum talked about developing economy and agriculture industry in the Mekong delta (Vietnam’s largest agro and aquatic farming area) towards sustainability amid climate change.
The forum aims to highlight the important role of green economy in sustainable economic development, environmental protection, bio-diversity conservation, and effective use and exploitation of natural resources. Green economy contributes added value to production chain of agro products, industry and services in the region.
In the past time, Can Tho province focused on developing sustainable industry together with environmental protection. Meanwhile, Vinh Long province gave priority to invest in environment-friendly projects, build wastewater treatment system in factories and develop ecological tourism.
In the time to come, SRSC in cooperation with competent authorities in the region will centre on developing industries which have little waste, deploying organic agriculture, using bio-products in producing agriculture.
