50 percent of Vietnam pangasius granted ASC certification by 2015

(vasep.com.vn) The ceremony titled “Celebrating Vietnam Pangasius Sector Achieving Responsible Production Target in 2012” was organized on 21st November 2012 in Ho Chi Minh City in the purpose to celebrate the successful efforts and achievements made by the Vietnam pangasius sector in moving towards responsible aquaculture in compliance with the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) standards as well as to honor Vietnam’s first ASC-certified fish producers.

Vietnam pangasius export to rebound in Q.IV/2012

Authorities should discuss and select standards for Vietnamese pangasius to facilitate export activity... Vietnamese pangasius producers now have to comply with multiple sets of standards, including ASC, GlobalGap (Good Agriculture Practice) and BAP (Best Aquaculture Practice).

Agifish produced 8,000 MT of raw pangasius in Q.IV/2012

(vasep.com.vn) In September 2012, An Giang Fisheries Import and Export Joint Stock Company (Agifish) exported 9,374 MT of pangasius products to earn US$24.74 million. Fish export in the first nine months of this year reached 26,347 MT for total revenue of US$73.058 million. Agifish mainly sent products to the U.S., Australia and the EU, which accounted for 44.95 percent, 13.98 percent and 13.55 percent respectively.

(vasep.com.vn) Vietnam’s pangasius sector will achieve its target to certify ten per cent of the country’s pangasius production for export under the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) standard by the end of 2012. This achievement was recognized during an event in Ho Chi Minh City today to share progress across the sector and commend certified Vietnamese pangasius producers.

Dong Thap province produced over 331 MT of pangasius

(vasep.com.vn) In 2012, land used in pangasius aquaculture totaled 1,679.03 hectares in Dong Thap province, said Dong Thap Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. To 5thNovember 2012, pangasius producers in the province have produced 331,791 MT of fish on an area of 902.04 hectares. Production of fingerlings reached 580.57 million of pieces. The province has currently 776.99 hectares in production and other 70.9 hectares taken out of operation.

Philippine government mass-producing pangasius

The Philippine Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) successfully produced pangasius through induced spawning, meaning the species can be mass-produced, reported the Philippine Information Agency.
