(vasep.com.vn) On April 5th 2013, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) issued the official letter No. 1148/BNN-TCTS suggesting that Mekong Delta provinces should stabilize pangasius production after US Department of Commerce (DOC)’s determination on the anti-dumping duty imposed on frozen pangasius fillets originated from Vietnam.

(vasep.com.vn) On Mar 5th 2013, Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) promulgated the official letter No. 46/2013/CV-VASEP and sent it to National Agro–Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance Department (NAFIQAD).

(SeafoodSource) Production of pangasius in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam has increased threefold in the past ten years, rising from 500,000 metric tons (MT) to a peak of 1.5 million MT in 2008, but currently standing at around 1.2 million MT.

In Germany, it is estimated that 70 – 75 percent of imported pangasius is sold in the retail segment and 25 – 30 percent is sold through the food service.

(vasep.com.vn) Pangasius exports to EU in 2012 hit US$425.8 million, down 19.1 percent over 2011. Economical crisis in the region affected to Vietnam’s pangasius exports. Exports to 4 main markets in the block such as Germany, Spain, the Netherland and the U.K deeply decreased.

(vasep.com.vn) The number of Vietnam seafood exporters in 2012 reduced by 30% due to some main difficulties such as capital shortage for production and processing and lower demands in import markets. Among the enterprises who has suspended exports, pangasius enterprises accounted a significant proportion. Surviving enterprises are mostly ones having stable capital and strong foothold in the markets. Top 20 pangasius exporters with the export turnover of US$1.071 billion made up 61.4 percent of Vietnam’s total pangasius export value of US$1.745 billion.

(vasep.com.vn) In 2012, Vietnam exported its pangasius to 142 nations and territories, increasing from 136 ones in 2011, reaching value of US$1.744 billion, decreasing by 3.4 percent compared to 2011.

(vasep.com.vn) Godaco Seafood Joint Stock Company (Godaco) has recently presented more than 70 new seafood products, particularly pangasius ones, to serve domestic consumption and to meet demand from foreign customers, according to Nguyen Van Dao, the company’s General Director. Godaco is located in My Tho industrial park in Tien Giang province.
