Recovery sign in pangasius exports to the EU

(pangasius-vietnam.com) In the first half of September 2013, Vietnam pangasius exports to the EU had worth of US$13.2 million, up 3.4 percent against the same time of 2012. If the figure keeps increasing in the second half, September is the third month that pangasius see growth in sales to European market. The two biggest single markets were Spain (up 12.2 percent to US$2.1 million) and the Netherlands (up 4.6 percent to US$1.9 million).

Vietnam pangasius production on downward

(pangasius-vietnam.com) In the first half of 2013, domestic pangasius production totaled around 560,000 MT, decreasing by 3 percent from that reported in the corresponding period of 2011, according to Vietnam Department of Statistics.

Thailand’s pangasius exports down, imports up

(pangasius-vietnam.com) Thailand’s frozen pangasius fillets (HS0304) has been on downtrend while imports of this product are strongly increasing. The current stronger Thai baht against U.S. dollar made many local processors reduce or even stop production in absence of new orders. Some companies intended to close their operations if the value of baht continues to soar higher. Thai fishery industry is asking governement to take measures to stabilize its currency in order to keep domestic fish production on track.

Pangasius imported into the US

The average price of fillets –basa and panga- imported in April was USD 3,167/t, down 1% on that of March and 14% on that of April 2012. During the first four months of the year the average was USD 3,217/t, down 14% on that of the same period last year.

Vietnamese pangasius export recovered in May 2013

(pangasius-vietnam.com) Most of import markets of Vietnamese pangasius showed recovery signs since April 2013. According to Vietnam Customs, pangasius exports reached US$174.09 million in May 2013, up 15.7 percent compared with that of May 2012. In the first five months, Vietnam generated US$708.89 million, up 1.5 percent from the same period of 2012.

Vinh Hoan Corp exports most pangasius in January-April period

In April, Vietnam exported pangasius products for USD 146.3 million, up 1.8 per cent over the same period of 2012. Meanwhile, in January–April 2013, pangasius exports brought in USD 534.8 million, down 6 per cent year-on-year.
