Japan’s Fisheries Agency official expressed concern against Mexico for the result of its catch of Pacific bluefin tuna this year. Mexico’s catch limit of Pacific bluefin tuna is set to 10,000 tons covering for two years, 2012 and 2013.

After leading tough negotiations to get a better supply of raw material for the European and Spanish canned tuna processing industry, the National Association of Manufacturers of Canned Fish and Shellfish (Anfaco-Cecopesca) reported that the European Commission (EC) approved an annual 22,000 tonne duty free tuna loin quota for the period 2013-2015.

Tom Mazzetta starts editorial campaign over countervailing duties on shrimp

Tom Mazzetta, CEO of the Mazzetta Co., one of the largest US shrimp importers, blanketed the trade media this morning with an opinion piece regarding the countervailing duty petition by the US domestic shrimp processors. He makes the point that wild and farmed shrimp are not comparable, and that wild shrimp should be getting a premium price, including higher prices to harvesters. He accuses domestic shrimp processors of keeping the dock price of shrimp artificially low. His comments are below.
