Although, in three years ago, Vietnam’s tuna export companies identified that Germany was a potential market of Vietnam processed and canned tuna (HS code 160414) in the future. However, up to now, Vietnamese enterprises still focus on exporting frozen skipjack (HS code 030487) to Germany. Therefore, although the export value has increased steadily over the past years, the market share of tuna imports from Vietnam in Germany is lower than many competitors.
According to ITC statistics, in the first 10 months of 2017, Germany continues to prefer processed and canned tuna products (HS code 160414). This group accounts for 92-97% of the country's total tuna imports.

So far, with high per capita income and high demand for premium seafood, this is one of the two largest tuna importing markets in the EU (just behind France). Germany also has the highest import price of tuna products in the region. In 2017, The import price of tuna into Germany ranged from US$4.98 to US$6.5 per kilogram, higher than that into Austria, Denmark or France. These are also high-value importing markets in Europe.
As a result of the continuous growth of frozen tuna exports to Germany in 2017, many experts point out that Vietnam’s tuna exports to Germany expected to increase in 2018.
