Exports of processed tuna to Mexico continued the rise

In the first 9 months of this year, Vietnam’s tuna exports to Mexico witnessed the good growth, in which the export value peaked at US$2.28 million in May 2017, an increase of 427.4% over the same period last year. In QII/2017, exports to this market also increased from 10% to 133% over the same period in 2016. Until the end of 2017, Vietnam’s tuna exports to Mexico forecasted to continue the rise of 30 - 50% per month over the same period last year.

Currently, Vietnam stayed as the 4^th largest supplier of tuna to Mexico (behind the U.S, China and Venezuela). Imports of skipjack tuna (HS code 030343) and processed tuna (HS code 160414) picked the largest share of 54-65% of total imports into Mexico in the first half of this year.

In addition, during this period, Mexico also increased imports of frozen yellowfin tuna (HS code 030342); bigeye tuna (HS code 030344) and frozen skipjack (HS code 030487).

In the first half of this year, Mexico increased tuna imports from some markets such as Vietnam, Venezuela, Kiribati, Korea and Ecuador. However, the value of tuna imports from the U.S and China decreased from 13 to 26% over the same period last year.
