Egypt - a promising destination for Vietnamese tuna

(vasep.com.vn) In the last 2 years, Egypt and other countries in the Middle East have been a new destination for tuna from Southeast Asia.

In the last 5 years, Vietnam's tuna exports to Egypt have increased constantly. In 2014, Vietnam's tuna exports to this nearly US$ 2.5 million, reporting a rocket of nearly 63% compared to 2013. Canned tuna was, of course, the main exported product.

Thailand and Indonesia are Vietnam's direct competitors in the market. In 2014, tuna exports from Vietnam experienced the highest growth rate among these sources, at 136% compared to 2013.

Overall, Egyptian market requirements are not as complex as in the EU, the US or Japan. It is worth a look from Vietnamese tuna suppliers.

In 2014, Egypt's tuna imports increased, despite the opposite trend observed in the world's 20 largest tuna importing markets. Egypt imported around 52,246 MT of tuna in 2014, equivalent to over US$ 163 million, up 31% by volume and 9% by value, year on year.

Egypt favored for canned tuna, which occupied 99% of total tuna imports. Statistics from the International Trade Centre (ITC) revealed that this market sourced tuna from 17 countries worldwide. Top importers were Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam.
