(seafood.vasep.com.vn) According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tra Vinh province, farmers in coastal areas of Cau Ngang, Tra Cu, Duyen Hai districts and Duyen Hai town have now cultivated over 1,800 hectares of whiteleg shrimp under a high-tech super-intensive model (high density), which is double the same period in 2023.
Many farmers have harvested yields of 50-70 tons/ha, with profits 7-10 times higher than traditional intensive shrimp farming.
This modern shrimp farming model has proven to be very sustainable. Thanks to the technical process of arranging ponds with lined bottoms and sides, covered with nets, equipped with float systems, bottom oxygen, and automatic feeders, it minimizes the risk of diseases from the soil infecting the shrimp. The shrimp grow uniformly and have superior quality compared to those farmed in earthen ponds.
In 2024, the province plans to cultivate more than 31,000 hectares of black tiger shrimp and whiteleg shrimp. To date, the area of shrimp farming has reached over 28,400 hectares, with the harvested output of black tiger shrimp and whiteleg shrimp exceeding 69,730 tons; of which, the harvested output of whiteleg shrimp exceeded 61,960 tons, reaching over 74% of the annual plan.
The province aims to have about 15,000 hectares of intensively farmed aquaculture in coastal areas by 2025, using high-tech industrial farming for black tiger shrimp and whiteleg shrimp.
