(vasep.com.vn) In August 2013, Vietnamese seafood exports are estimated to reach US$591 million, leading to a year-to-date value of US$4 billion, up 1.3 percent from the compatible period of 2012, according to Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The U.S. continued to be the leading importer of Vietnam seafood products, representing a proportion of 20.9 percent. Between January and July 2013, exports to the U.S. had a worth of US$712.31 million, increasing by 6.1 percent.
Compared to 2012, shipments to China, Canada and Thailand also reported considerable growth of 52.7 percent, 6.8 percent and 9.6 percent respectively. In contrast, some markets saw drop in seafood purchase from Vietnam like Japan (-1 percent), South Korea (-19.1 percent) and Spain (-11.5 percent).
In August, imports of fishery products into Vietnam are expected to total US$66 million. Vietnam mainly bought fishery products from India (14.2 percent) and Taiwan (11.4 percent).
