Shrimp, pangasius, tuna and cephalopods are main exported products from Vietnam’s fishery industry in past years.
Following the general trend of increasing seafood exports from Asia, especially from Southeast Asia and the increasing demand for fish products from major markets such as EU, North America and some Asian countries.., from Jan-Sept 2007, Vietnam’s seafood exports showed good growth with an increase of 13.8% compared to the same period in 2006. The total value of export in the period reached to USD 2.7 billion.
From Jan-Sept 2007, shrimp exports brought USD 1.067 billion to Vietnam, taking 39.4 percent of the total seafood exports. Standing in the second position is pangasius with the export value of USD 709 million (accounting for 26.2%); next is squid and octopus products with the export value of USD 205.5 million (7.7 %) and tuna exports gained USD 111 million (4.1%).
