Nam Dinh: Developing aquaculture under VietGAP standard

(vasep.com.vn) In the Red River Delta, aquaculture including shrimp farming has been developed well and shrimp products were exported to many countries. Shrimp farming created thousands of jobs for local people. However, the number of farmers who can’t remain their farming is increasingly high.

Located in the Red River Delta, Nam Dinh province plans to develop saltwater and brackishwater aquaculture under VietGAP with high productivity and targets to bring aquaculture sector to become an important economic sector of the region. To overcome difficulty and develop shrimp farming sustainably, close link between competent agencies and local farmers is very necessary.

Nam Dinh province has 30 hatcheries. Local fish farming area reaches 36,150 hectares including 14,271 hectares of saltwater and brackishwater fish farming area and 21,879 hectares of freshwater farming area. Average harvest output of the province reaches 15 – 30 MT per hectare per crop, earning profit of VND400 million per year.
