Farming, fishing and transporting of aquaculture products will be more closely monitored from now on, said Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Luong Le Phuong.
Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) would ask local authorities and quality control agencies to improve their inspections of farming areas, vessels, and ports to guarantee the hygiene and quality of seafood before entering plants for processing.
MARD will also implement traceability systems, said Phuong who added that the practice is a requirement of the EU.
EU was Viet Nam’s largest seafood export market last year, contributing US$1.14 billion to the industry’s total seafood export revenue of US$4.5 billion - an increase of 33.7 percent over the previous year.
